Why should you care about local craft beer at the best restaurants in Woodstock, GA? Well, let’s give you some hints… it’s local, it’s craft beer, and it’s freaking downtown Woodstock.
More specifically, we’re here to tell you about Freight Kitchen & Tap’s May brewery of the month, which is Scofflaw Brewing out of Atlanta, GA. Scofflaw founder Matt Shirah and brewmaster Travis Herman have an interesting story. Shirah left his corporate job on Wall Street to pursue his passion of craft beer here in Atlanta. That’s quite a jump. Herman on the other hand has a background in microbiology leading him to a job in pharmaceuticals, but ultimately chose the same path as Shirah. Needless to say, these two dudes aren’t your average joes. Herman actually attended brewing school in California and worked for two of the most renown breweries on the west coast. Thanks to Shirah’s mother-in-law’s basement, the two guys were able to start their project in 2015. Maybe this is what led to the name of the oh so familiar Basement IPA by Scofflaw. Within just two years, this basement project transferred to an 18,000 square foot facility in Atlanta’s westside. Scofflaw is ranked as one of the fastest first-year expansions in craft brewing history. Not only that, they are recognized as one of the “Best New Craft Breweries in America” by Beer Advocate, Craft Beer & Brewing, and USA Today.
In other news, the first Woodstock Roots music night presented by Ridgewalk Chiropractic begins tonight from 7 PM until 9 PM. Woodstock Roots takes place on the Elm Street Arts Village Event Green on Market Street. This continues every third Thursday of the month from May through August.
Stop into Freight for a Scofflaw draft for just $6 this month! Better yet, come on a Monday when all craft on draft is only $4. Can you beat that?
